The Euro foodie series – There’s always a first.

Europe has always been one of my dream touring destinations, especially Italy and Switzerland. And Finally got a chance at it. A ten day tour covering the important sites in 6 different countries.(Yes,it was a package). But given the short time,it is always hard to get the best of the country’s experience . But nevertheless,i tried getting around and out and tried as many bites as i could. So this is the start of a short yet delightful Bon Viveur’s western European journey.

There’s always a first.

Ordering food is an easy job.But ever tried it in another language,or at least to someone who cant speak a common language?( provided the menu is elaborated only partially in English). Trust me, getting past the language barrier to get the food you want is tough. But there is this rush of adrenaline and happiness that pumps you up when what ever you tried conversing ends up getting you exactly what you wanted (or atleast close). Now that’s called success ๐Ÿ˜€

My first stop was in this Auto-grill outlet in the outskirts of Rome. While stopping the bus for a 30 mins break, all of us decided to get some coffee or snacks to freshen up. As soon as people started ordering ,we realised that the ladies at the counter nor the service had no clue how to speak English. And what ever everyone tried ordering from the given menu, just seemed off from what people wanted (For eg, ‘cafe’ is really strong black coffee, whereas cappuccino is the milk coffee that we ask for.So when you ask for normal “coffee”,They serve you “caafee” instead)

I wanted to try something different,so I went through the menu, figuring out what was what and gathered all the Italian that I could from the internet(with Bere,La tazza ,vorrei etc) and my dad(who has learned Italian) and ordered for The Nutella croissant and the expresso Nochholitia (which was made of espresso with chocolate ,whipped cream and nougat). I was actually surprised to see the lady didn’t ask any further questions and served me both the items that i asked for. Remember the success I was talking about? This was it! ๐Ÿ˜€

The Nochholitia was a bit strong at the bottom due to the expresso, but the topping was really great. And the nutella croissant was good too( basically anything with loads of nutella is amazing ๐Ÿ™‚ ) So overall, A successful order ๐Ÿ˜€

A good start to day 1

Dont forget to check out the rest of the series.

Happy fooding guys ๐Ÿ™‚
